Sheepskin is quite amazing. These single layered sheepskin Ugg boots, where the leather skin is on the outside, have intriguing properties. The wool fleece can be worn without socks whereas synthetic fur will make your feet perspire heavily and make your feet ice-cold in winter. Worse yet, synthetics develop an odor quickly.
Uggs au natural are not like that; it takes a much longer time for odor to build and for some reason, it is not pungent. With genuine sheepskin your feet do not perspire much, stay warm in winter, air-conditioned in summer.
Use commercial water and stain repellents especially during periods of rainy weather. Just spray thoroughly without saturating the leather and be sure to get the seams. When you finish, let the boots dry for 24 hours.
Look over the directions avoid applying near a flame or downwind to you don’t breathe in the fumes. Some repellent’s are very flammable and are not recommended to breathe in.
Washing you Uggs in a washing machine may result in a little fading. Cold water that is very cold helps reduce fading. But a few tee shirts along with your boots in the washer so they don’t knock around. Also they act like scrubbers. Use the light-duty cycle for 15 minutes and add Woolite. Don’t use any other type soap.
Pull out the boots at the end of the cycle and if needed, do a soft hand scrub with a little more Woolite with an old toothbrush or nail brush on the surface of the sheepskin suede where there may be some stains or dirt encrusted. Place back in the wash machine and rinse and spin-dry.
When it’s time to pull out your Ugg boots, put soda bottles into the shaft. It keeps them upright and straight. Put them in a warm place and check from time to time. Keep an eye out for sheepskin puckering. If that happens, just push and tug the sheepskin to keep the look intact.
Ensure equal drying by making the boot is equally wet so there is no water line. After they are dry you’ll want to brush the suede with a soft brush to get the pile up and soften up the looks of the outer surface. Remember to re-apply the waterproofing spray.
Using cold water and using Woolite keeps the fading at a minimum due to washing. Uggs will stretch with wear. A good fitting pair should fit snug and not too tight.
To deodorize the boot, use equal amounts of baking soda and corn flour and sprinkle them inside the boot. Shake the dust around especially around the bottom. Let this concoction stay overnight and shake out the excess the next morning and you’re good to go.
