Irish treaty vote set for October

Brian Cowen made the announcement in the Dail this morning.

The second referendum is being arranged following the decision by EU leaders
to give Ireland legal guarantees on issues like abortion, military
neutrality and taxation.

The EU has also agreed that all member states will continue to have one
representative on the European Commission.

These were some of the issues of concern identified in a survey of voters
after the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty last year.
