If you’re a fan of mind-melting, stylish puzzle games, then you’re probably familiar with Sony’s Echochrome. And if that’s the case, then you probably also heard that Sony announced a sequel, Echochrono for the PlayStation Portable, at E3 2009. Well, now it seems that Sony is either already preparing a third installment in the platforming-puzzle series, or it’s just planning to simply change Echochrono‘s name to something more distinctive.
As VG247 reported, Sony recently trademarked the name Echoshift, and…well, that’s pretty much it. So far, Sony has been mum as to whether this is in reference to a new game or simply a matter of wanting to avoid confusion, as Echochrome and Echochrono do sound oddly similar. Given the critical success of the first game, and based on the E3 trailer and Raymond Padilla’s hands-on impressions, Echochrono looks to be rather insane, so it wouldn’t be that surprising if Sony has plans to continue the series with a third game. Yet, considering Echochrono is clearly a working title (it says so right in the trailer), a simple name change is most likely what we’re looking at here. But as always, we’ll know for sure when we know for sure.
