UFC President Dana White Says He’s "At War" With EA Over MMA

UFC Head Dana White Remember a couple of weeks ago when UFC president Dana White reportedly threatened to ban any UFC fighter who appeared in EA Sports’ mixed martial arts game MMA? Well, it turns out White wasn’t fargin around.

MMA Junkie reports that White’s animosity towards EA has quite the history, and based on White’s comments, his feelings appear justified.

White said of EA, "They wouldn’t even take a meeting because mixed martial arts disgusted them. This wasn’t a real sport. Boy, they got over that real quick, didn’t they?"

White went on to make his banning policy quite clear, stating that if a fighter appears in EA’s game, "You won’t be in the UFC."

MMA Junkie points out that former UFC heavyweight champion Randy "The Natural" Couture will in fact be appearing in MMA, and yet White makes no mention of forever banning him. This seems to suggest that White isn’t quite ready to play as hard as he perhaps wants to, since in the end, he has a business to worry about, and losing a bunch of high profile, fan favorite fighters would most certainly have a negative impact on said business.

Still, it will be very interesting to see how this whole back and forth will progress as EA gets further along in development on MMA. For as White so succinctly put it, "EA doesn’t give a [expletive] about mixed martial arts. They made that very clear."

If EA’s MMA is a solid enough game, would UFC fans really care if the game only included ficticious characters? Or is it like any other sports game where the major appeal is the chance to play as your favorite player/fighter?
