How Effective Are Renewable Energy Resources, Such As A Solar Racking System, At Providing For Energy Needs?
With so many types of renewable energy available (wind energy, solar racking, geothermal, tidal energy, biomass, etc.) it may require a little effort to sort through all the options available. The United States is currently largely dependent upon coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy needs. The problem with these resources is that they are finite and will eventually be wholly consumed. On the contrary, utilizing renewable energy sources such as harnessing tidal power, wind turbines, using a solar awning, etc. will produce energy infinitely. These resources continue to re-supply whatever is consumed and even more, potentially make reliance on finite resources obsolete.
Right now renewable energy seems to be less a practical application than a buzz word. For all intents and purposes, it makes sense, but few people and businesses are actually willing to put time or expense into truly benefiting from these resources that the Earth abundantly provides. Why aren’t more people and businesses taking advantage of the benefits of renewable energy? Really, how much can we rely on renewable energy sources to provide our energy needs? What is projected for future use of renewable energy sources based on current trends?
Initial costs to install systems that harness renewable energy, such as solar racking systems, wind turbines, tidal converters, etc., are quite high, causing many people to shy away from renewable energy and opting instead for its less expensive counterparts. This could be due to a lack of education or laziness, or even reluctant to try something new. Whatever the reason, renewable energy resources are not being explored and utilized nearly as much as fossil fuel consumption. And this, even though the United Nations has declared that renewable energy has the power to lift even the poorest nation to new levels of prosperity, means that we are not using these valuable resources provided to us nearly enough.
Renewable energy, if used appropriately, can be used almost exclusively for a host of energy needs. Many countries have already make a push to get at least half of their energy needs filled by renewable resources. These countries are leading the way for renewable energy and the percentage of energy needs met be renewable sources is as follows: Iceland (100%), Norway (98%), Brazil (86%), Austria (62%), New Zealand (65%), and Sweden (54%). These countries rely heavily on renewable resources, so they must see benefits to utilizing these resources. Wind power provides a significant share of electricity in many areas of the United States as well as other countries. Solar racking, such as using a solar awning or solar mounting systems, also provides for many types of energy needs and is quickly gaining on wind power. Others locations, generally closer to the coasts, are finding more and more uses for the power generated by the ocean and tides.
All forms of energy cost a great deal, whether they are renewable resources or traditional ones. Trends show that as time passes renewable energy becomes more affordable and fossil fuels become more expensive. Because there is less fossil fuel to go around (remember fossil fuels are a finite resource meaning they will eventually run out), the price tag continues to increase to consume the remaining supply. Though there is some friendly disagreement about exactly when energy needs to turn to renewable sources, most scientists agree that by the year 2030 almost all energy will need to be derived from renewable sources.
Renewable energy resources, such as solar racking, tidal power, wind power, solar awning, biomass, geothermal, etc. do have great potential for supplying our energy needs in the near future.
