Other than cancer, there’s another disease that most people dread and that is diabetes. So below, you will read about the symptoms of diabetes and how is diabetes caused.
Diabetes is a condition in which the body malfunctions in either one or both of these ways: it does not produce enough insulin or it does not properly respond to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows cells to absorb glucose which is then transformed to energy. Because of the body’s inability to take up this glucose, it just remains in the blood which is very harmful to the body. Diabetes in its purest sense has two types: type 1 and type 2.
Type 1 diabetes is defined as an autoimmune disease caused by a mix of genetic predisposition and other factors. This type involves the attack of the immune system of the insulin-producing beta cells found in the pancreas. This event leads to symptoms such as frequent urination, unusual thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss and extreme fatigue and irritability.
Type 2 diabetes on the other hand, is a lifestyle-related disease. It is caused by insulin resistance or the body’s inability to respond to insulin. So, no matter how much or how little insulin is made, the body is unable to react accordingly. Because there isn’t any response, the glucose can be absorbed by the cells therefore it remains in the blood leading to scary effects in the body. These effects include excessive thirst and appetite, increased urination, unusual weight loss or weight gain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, slow-healing sores or cuts, itchy skin and blurred vision. The most distinctive symptoms in women is the emergence of vaginal infections.
If you have been experiencing these symptoms, then it is best to visit a doctor. During your visit, you would be asked to go through some tests so that you’ll be diagnosed or ruled out with the condition and once it is confirmed that you have diabetes, you will be given medications. Aside from the medications, the doctor could also advise you to modify your diet. If you just follow all the instructions of the doctor, you will just be able to get by. Nonetheless, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you would already be careful because there are symptoms that tell you that you would need to go to the doctor.
These symptoms include nausea, weakness, excessive thirst and urination and abdominal pain. Additionally, there are rapid, deep breaths that smell of nail polish remover, weakness, fainting spells, fast heartbeats, shaking, excessive sweat and sudden drowsiness.
