Here are five basic, simple ingredients you can find in your kitchen or fridge and use for a successful do-it-yourself facial.
Not a surprise there! Honey contains a substance which has the ability to hold and contain moisture levels in the skin. It is also a good remedy for clearing up acne as it deep cleanses the pores and prevents further bacteria from growing in the skin. For a relatively easy face scrub, mix 1 tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons of finely ground almonds and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Gently rub this mixture in circular motions on your face and jaw line, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water after.
It can be surprising – how these all natural in origin recipes can be so beneficial. Even when compared with expensive skin care products, they can stand their ground. They work to improve the skin’s texture and contain no colorants, perfume and preservatives. It helps to soften the epidermis, leaving the skin smooth and hydrated. They boost the skin’s moisture levels and enhance its ability to protect itself from free radicals and toxin. These benefits are very similar to those imported creams, lotions and masks claim as results, except homemade skin care are inexpensive and safe to use.
Avocado has been increasingly popular as a prominent ingredient in natural skin care recipes. It is known for its superior properties to provide moisture for the skin. Furthermore, it is rich in vitamin A; D and E which will help maintain healthy, glowing skin. One facial mask that’s ideal for dry skin combines avocado and oatmeal. Mash some avocado and mix it with a little milk or oatmeal. Spread the mixture evenly on your skin and rinse off after 10 minutes.
Eggs whites are not only for baking or cooking — they make a good face mask too! They are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals which make it ideal for tightening and firming the skin. For a brightening and lifting face mask, mix a tablespoon of honey with one egg white and apply it on your face. When you feel that the mask is dry on your skin, rinse off with water. For maximized results, use this once every fortnight.
Bananas are rich in everything that’s good for the body and skin – fiber, zinc, potassium, vitamins A, B, E and F. They have calming properties that help in reducing skin inflammation, blemishes and swelling. A facial mask that would benefit dehydrated skin most, combines papaya, banana and avocado.
