If you are considering having wooden blinds installed in your home as a window covering there are certain things that one needs to take into consideration. Certainly wooden blinds not only add a more natural look to a room’s dcor but also can add a touch of elegance as well.

Certainly as you will soon discover there are various benefits to be had from getting blinds like these installed on the windows in your home. They are ideal to prevent too much light from getting into a room, but are also ideal when closed to keep the cold out during the winter months. The other benefit is that they ensure your privacy from the outside world.

You have a large selection of different colored wooden blinds to choose from today. So finding ones that actually complement the decor of a particular room in your home should not be that difficult.

Some kinds of wooden blinds actually don’t have any holes in them and so will stop any light from getting into a room. Plus this means when they are closed the slats actually fit more tightly together as well. The sizes of slats in the blinds can vary considerably and you can have ones that are only inch wide to may 2 or 3 inches in width. The size of the slats can provide a completely different look to a room and how much warmth they keep in the room when open and closed. Finally you need to make a decision on whether you want the slats on your blinds to be horizontal or vertical.

Next you need to decide if you want your blinds to be opened and closed by a motor or manually. Certainly motorized wooden blinds are going to cost more than those which you have to open and close yourself. If you have windows that are large or high off the ground then a motorized system would be better.

Now you need to decide just what kind of wood the blinds are going to be made from. Today these blinds are made using a wide variety of materials including distressed or natural Basswood, Cherry, Oak, Cedar, Bamboo and Faux wood. So spend some time comparing the pros and cons of each material and what you need to do to keep them looking great once they have been installed.

But if you want you don’t have to go for the natural look, as you can yourself actually paint or stain them so that they fit exactly with the decor of the room where they are installed. However, you need to be careful as painting can often make them lose that elegant touch that you were attempting to give a room.

Adding wooden blinds to windows in a room where you have some beautiful wooden furniture will further help to add to the charm and elegance of that room. If the blinds do not match the color of your furniture then why not consider staining them to either match or complement it instead.
