Everyone that wants instant web site traffic simply heads over to a search engine, and registers to get pay per click (paid) advertising, so when people search, their website gets listed. It can add up to quite a bit of money when you use ppc traffic.
Using search engine optimization, you can make your web pages appear higher in the search engine results pages, so people will find you, and click over to your website, without having to pay the search engines a dime.
Page Rank is this thing from Google (where Larry Page works), where each page on your site gets a ranking from 0 to 10, and supposedly, the higher the number, the better it is for you and everyone else. Getting a better pagerank usually means you get better search engine results on the search pages, so I am going to show you how to do some things to your pages that will increase your pagerank and give you better results on those search engine results pages (they call them “SERPS” ).
Sound cool? Then lets dig into things you can do to get good rankings in the search engines.
1. Get links pointing to your site with rich keyword anchors.
I mean, do stuff to get other sites to point to your site, using a link phrase that people actually search for.
A great way to do this is to write informative articles and use the author box to link back to your site, then submit your article to many article directories.
2. Make sure your keyword is in the title tag.
The title tag is what is at the top of your browser when people visit your page. Your keyword should be there.
3. Put your keyword in your headline.
Putting your keyword in your headline reaffirms the theme of your web page, so the search engines are pretty much convinced they know what your page is about. The headline is the biggest text on your web page, usually at the very top of the page.
4. Include similar keywords on your web page.
Some folks call this semantic indexing, but you can ignore those big words, and simply write meaningful stuff on your page, and you will have related words that tell the search engines that this is stuff that humans should see.
5. Remove the programming jargon from your main html file.
6. Put the full link to your internal HTML pages.
If you have other pages you want to list in the search engines, include that HTTP colon slash slash stuff with your links. This tells google and the other engines that this other page is worth listing on their search engine results.
7. Keep your website fresh.
If you page is old and stagnant, the search engines will drop your rankings, since they don’t know if it relevant any more. By keeping your site fresh and changing, they know it is a vibrant, living site, and that makes it worth listing higher in the results pages.
Put these tips into action, and watch how it improves your results, but in your listings in the search engines, and in the extra web site traffic it creates. SEO is easy, once you know the simple steps to take – so take a step now.
