A new planet has been discovered and it is now named as WASP 17. Why WASP 17? It has nothing to do with giant wasps from that planet; WASP actually stands for Wide Area Search for Planets, a consortium of British universities. The new planet is 1000 light years away from us, so it is really very far away, imagine if you have a spaceship that can travel in space in the speed of light, it will still take you 1000 years to reach WASP 17, that’s the layman’s way of explaining that distance.
Initial calculations revealed that the size of WASP 17 is double the size of Jupiter. Wow, that’s really massive. There is no information that says whether this planet is gaseous or solid.
