by Graeme Roberts

As North Wales premier coastal resort the town of Llandudno is a great place for your holiday. There is a greater choice of hotels in Llandudno than anywhere else in North Wales from small boutique style hotels to large hotels with hundreds of rooms. Llandudno’s hotels have a reputation for providing excellent service combined with the towns wonderful attractions that draw visitors back year after year.

The majority of Llandudno hotels are located on the town’s Victorian promenade. The promenade is perfectly framed between the Great Orme at the north end and the Little Orme to the east. The promenade curves for over one and a half miles and, other than Bodafon Fields towards the Little Orme is lined almost entirely by hotels. These hotels tend to be the most expensive especially if you want a sea view which is well worth it.

Llandudno promenade has hotels to suit all tastes. Many of the larger hotels such as The Imperial Hotel and St George’s Hotel are run by national chains. The larger hotels often have multiple entertainment facilities such as swimming pools, saunas, and games rooms and many have one or more ballrooms with evening entertainment.

Nestled amongst the larger hotels are the smaller privately owned hotels. These hotels are the Llandudno hotels that have built up a reputation for quality and attract the majority of repeat visitors. An example of one of the best privately owned hotels is the St Tudno’s Hotel which has won many awards for its quality of service and excellent restaurant.

One large hotel that most visitors see immediately is the imposing Grand Hotel which stands almost on the pier itself. The Grand Hotel enjoys terrific views of Llandudno’s Bay and promenade. A number of hotels are located on the North Parade to the rear of The Grand Hotel. These hotels tend to be less expensive than one’s located directly on the promenade but still afford wonderful views of the bay and promenade.

The Empire Hotel is one hotel worth mentioning that is not located on the promenade. The hotel is located at the top of Mostyn Street looking down Llandudno’s main shopping area and close to the Great Orme. The Empire Hotel has earned a reputation as one of Llandudno’s best hotels with modern bedrooms and facilities.

Another hotel worth mentioning is The Risboro Hotel which is located about 10 minutes walk from Llandudno’s promenade in a peaceful part of the town. Whilst not as large as some of the hotels on the promenade the hotel offers an excellent standard of accommodation.

Llandudno’s West Shore is a location often overlooked but provides an ideal location if you want to be close to the beach but away from the town centre. The West Shore is located approximately 20 minutes walk away from the main shopping areas and is home to a number of smaller hotels. Here you can enjoy inspiring views of the Snowdonia Mountains and Isle of Anglesey and play on the sands of the quieter beach.

The Deganwy Quay Hotel and Bodysgallen Hall and Spa Hotel are two hotels located within a couple of miles of Llandudno town centre that are worth mentioning. The Deganwy Quay Hotel is located on Deganwy Marina and is one of the regions top rated hotels. You can enjoy views of Conwy Castle and the Conwy Estuary in this exclusive modern hotel. The Bodysgallen Hall and Spa Hotel is located in its own grounds and is one of Wales finest country house hotels. The Bodysgallen Hall and Spa Hotel is ideal if you’re looking for seclusion and are willing to pay a little bit more for it.
